Free Water Testing Explained: How to Make the Most of Zagers’ In‑Store Service

Pool water testing chemicals set by pool.

Ensuring your pool and spa water is clean is crucial to safely enjoying your backyard paradise. To guarantee safety and quality, regular pool and spa water testing is highly recommended to identify any issues you may be experiencing early on for a quicker resolution, protecting from any skin irritation or equipment harm.

Why Regular Water Testing Matters for Pool and Spa Health

Regular water testing ensures that your pool water chemicals are properly balanced. Pool water with a low or high pH, too much chlorine, or not enough chlorine, can lead to serious damage and issues to your pool or spa lining, pumps, and more. Not properly balancing your water may lead to damage to your pool, affecting overall longevity and quality.

Not only does regular water testing ensure the health of your pool and spa, but it’s also important for your own safety. Swimming in unbalanced or unclean water can lead to sickness and irritated skin.

What to Expect with Zagers Free In‑Store Water Testing

At Zagers, we make our free in-store water testing easy and effective. We have two ways to drop off and receive your tested water results.

  • Drop Off- If you have a busy schedule, you can drop off your water sample at a Zagers location near you during business hours, and expect a call later to receive same-day results. In our stores, we have a “drop off bin” located by the front counter. To ensure your contact information is correctly taken into account, we ask that you attach a Water Test Form to your water sample so we can call you with results as soon as possible.

For your water sample, we recommend using a regular water bottle that has never held any products that could alter the test results, such as pop or other acidic liquids. For your convenience, free water bottles are available at all 4 of our locations.

  • Stop In- If you have a bit of time to kill or are planning to walk around our store, you can stop in at a Zagers location during business hours to have it tested and wait at our store for results. Testing does not usually take long, but if it’s a busy day, there may be some extra time to wait while we help customers.

Common Water Issues We Catch & How You Can Fix Them

Many issues that we catch can be caused by common errors and mistakes. The following is what we find most of:

  • Imbalanced pH levels– when pH levels are not balanced, issues like skin and eye irritation or scaling, resulting in hard white deposits of calcium in the water of the pool. To correct and balance pH levels, our team will recommend the needed BioGuard pool chemicals to bring your pH back to normal.
  • Too low or too high chlorine levels- Imbalanced chlorine levels can occur when one adds too much chlorine to their pool, or not enough. Refreshing your water and diluting the pool can bring chlorine levels down, or using a chlorine neutralizer can bring your pool chlorine levels back to a balance for a faster result.
  • Algae growth- Algae growth can occur due to many issues, commonly involving low chlorine, pool filtration, and can easily be introduced by a large amount of rain or debris. To remove and stop algae growth, solutions include shocking your pool or spa, balancing the water chemistry, and recleaning the filters.

After your pool or spa water is tested and issues are identified, we will communicate with you the best solutions and any recommended products to help get your water back to a healthy condition.
